Associate Lecturer
Johannes is a policy advisor at a non-governmental organisation, where he works on international policy processes and matters related to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), particularly the Agreement on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ Agreement).
His research interests lie in the mechanisms through which the international community addresses some of the most urgent and complex global challenges, with a particular emphasis on the role, evolution, and effectiveness of international organisations. By examining the history and practice of international negotiations, Johannes seeks to better understand these challenges, how they have been overcome in the past, and what lessons can be learned for future efforts to address pressing issues such as climate change, environmental degradation, and terrorism.
He completed his PhD at the University of St Andrews, where he also taught as an Associate Lecturer at the School of International Relations. He holds a degree in Political Science from the University of Vienna and an MLitt in Terrorism and Political Violence from the Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence (CSTPV).
