Alex Dyzenhaus

Alex Dyzenhaus joined the School of International Relations as a Lecturer in 2026 after working as a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto and an OSUN Democracy and Development Fellow at the University of Cape Town. A scholar of African politics, Alex studies the political economy of land reform, agriculture, colonialism, transitional justice and elections. His most recent and ongoing projects are on the politics of land redistribution in post-Apartheid South Africa. He has also done work on local governments in Kenya and election violence in Liberia. His research has appeared in World Politics, Comparative Politics, Politics, Groups and Identities, The Journal of Peace Research, World Development and African Affairs.
