Michal Czerniawski

Visiting Fellow

Michal Czerniawski is the EU Visiting Fellow at the University of St Andrews, where his research focuses on issues related to digital sovereignty. He is a lawyer with the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) of the European Parliament, specialising in legislation on the EU’s digital policy, personal data protection, and transparency.

Previously, he served as a Legal Officer at the European Data Protection Board (EDPB). He holds a PhD on the territorial scope of EU data protection law, as well as an LL.M. in Law and Technology from the University of Ottawa. He is admitted to practice as an attorney-at-law in Poland.

He has authored and co-authored numerous publications, with work appearing in journals such as Oxford’s International Data Privacy Law.
